X-cOM: Interceptor is the third installment in the series, coming after "Apocalypse". Gameplay combines elements of strategy and tactical control in space. Gamer enters the future in the year 2067. Humanity's home planet is depleted of all resources. Mega-corporations and powerful organizations set their sights on exploring distant stars to keep civilization from collapsing.

A suitable space zone has been found for mining "Frontier". comic planes successfully reach their destination. The crew encounters Mutons, Sectoids, and other races. They hint that they have other plans for humans as they try to destroy it. This part of the game is set far away from the planet, compared to its predecessors. Instead of the globe's territory, the user applies a star map. Gamer is able to make administrative and strategic decisions of his organization.

Inside the space stations, research is done, and modules are built. Each hangar can have a maximum of 3 planes. Locators, dwellings and infirmaries play a role in battles and development. The player has access to defensive structures to defend their territory against small alien groups. New technologies and improvements are studied on Earth, and then delivered to Rubezh. Slow starships that deliver the necessary knowledge and resources for money can be intercepted by enemies. You can hire an escort squad for a fee.
