Voltage takes you back to the 1980s. Frontier city, Missouri, a man named Mark accidentally gets his hands on a prototype of virtual reality glasses. Unexpectedly they are compatible with his Amiga-500 gadget. He starts the game, and then gets into an unusual journey in a parallel dimension.

It all started when the main character goes on summer vacation after a long school year. This is his last summer, and after that, college. He lives in an idyllic settlement with territory that includes dense forest, dozens of medium-sized lakes and a clear "down to the bottom" water. The famous American soccer league often plays games here. But even on summer days, there's often nothing to do. Because of this, the central character Mark has gone to explore the scrap metal vault with his friends, Simon, Benjamin, and Jesse.

Sneaking into the junkyard, they begin to explore it in search of special items and parts from cars and mopeds. As soon as the protagonist notices an old truck, he reads a two-word inscription on it: "co" and "International". Looking inside the car, he sees a bunch of damaged items and serviceable VR glasses with a floppy disk. Taking this device to his home, he discovers that he is able to combine the found glasses and an Amiga 500.

He then realizes that this machine belonged to an advanced technology company. After starting the game, he enters a fictional world, but he didn't know that another site's technical department had spotted the visitor. After that, the organization tries by all means to hunt down the player in order to get his invention back by engaging an army.
