Unity of command: Stalingrad campaign is a turn-based strategy game that uses the popular World War II setting. The gamer will have to choose a side of the conflict and try to turn the situation in favor of their faction with the help of a whole set of mechanics available in the game from a small indie studio called "2x2 Games". The time period 1942-43, displayed in the presented single-player campaign tasks, covers completely the events that took place during the capture of Stalingrad by the German army, which was under siege for an incredibly long period of combat operations.
Both sides of the conflict have unique units with their own pluses and minuses that allow you to use all kinds of tactical tricks to gain a decisive advantage over your opponent. Large-scale combat operations are shown with the help of a global map, which schematically shows the arrangement of individual units. The player performs his or her moves, which include recruiting soldiers, building fortifications, moving warriors, and more, then passes the right to act to an artificial intelligence with advanced strategic thinking skills, which allows the AI to use various tactics to destroy the gamer's army.
On the course of the clashes in the game "Unity of command: The Stalingrad campaign" can be affected by any, even the smallest, detail. The implemented change of weather conditions can make it difficult for one camp, and give an advantage to the other due to some passive bonuses available to certain units, helping them to camouflage better in rain, move faster in snow, and so on.
