The fictional country of Arstotzka is a small world of the protagonist of the game, where he will check the documents at the customs every day. The plot of Papers, Please, a puzzle game with an unusual approach and graphics, as well as the beginning of the simulation, shows the events from the fact that the main character wins the lottery profession of a customs officer at the checkpoint. His task will be to check documents and put stamps. He is given an eighth-grade apartment, where he moves in with his wife, and after that, work life eats away at him.

It falls on the shoulders of the immigration service to check the documents not only residents of Arstotzki, who decided to leave the country, but also check the passports of the neighboring country - Kolecia, which has recently ended the war with our state, returning some of the territories.

At first we can just put "denied" or "accepted" on the paperwork. As soon as spies, counter-gangsters, and drug dealers appear among the people who pass through you, the level of play increases. For each correctly placed stamp, the player receives 5 units of in-game currency. At the end of the day, he decides to spend it, spending it on a house, paying for food, alcohol, or other needs of his.

Gameplay gets harder as time goes on, as the government dictates new rules for us every day, not always making the game harder, and people passing by are suspicious of weight, gender, face, and other documents such as work passes, entry permits, contraband permits.
