Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers tells the adventures of a young writer whose name is mentioned in the title of the game. The guy is plagued by nightmares, suffers a steady stream of dating failures, and can't get things going at his loss-making bookstore. One day he discovers a series of murders in his hometown of New Orleans. An unknown criminal takes the lives of his victims (often intimidating them to death), and then cuts out their hearts. The protagonist decides to investigate these criminal incidents himself in order to use the information he receives to create his future book.

In the story, there is a place for mysticism, thriller, sacrifice, dark cults and voodoo magic. That said, the dark episodes are diluted with comedic scenes. The story takes place in 1993 and lasts 10 days (from June 18 to 27). The game itself is a third-person quest. This release contains the original version of the project "Gabriel Knight. Sins of the Fathers", rather than its modern-day re-release. So this title offers old-school gameplay with pixel-hunting, missing active object lighting, and other gameplay design elements of those years. There was no hint system back then either.

At the time of its release, the original stood out among other representatives of the point-and-click adventure genre with its well-written story and developed secondary characters. conversations with them are recorded on tape. They are always available in the recorder for replaying (no diary here). When a conversation with an NPc grows deeper, the camera changes its perspective to show both of them in close-up. Also, the product boasts a kind of open world. Most of the locations are available to visit initially, and the hero gets some freedom of action. Moreover, the developers paid a lot of attention to the quality of puzzles and riddles.
