Download Dear Esther

Dear Esther is an exciting adventure game. The action takes place on the islands of Hebridean, specifically on one of the uninhabited islands. You play as an unnamed man who scours his area. We're watching first-person events, there's no action, arcade sections, or puzzle solving.

Linear structure. The protagonist, who visits nearby places on the island, learns about its secrets and reads letters that are addressed to Esther, his wife who died in a car accident. The narrator also mentions other people: for example, Donnelly, who made a map of the island, and the shepherd Jacobson, who lived on the island in the eighteenth century.

Dear Esther doesn't explain everything to us. It's up to us to piece together the facts and draw the final conclusion regarding the relationship between the island and Esther's accident. The chinese room can be repurposed, which gives us access to new fragments of letters.

Places we visit include ruins of buildings, a wrecked ship, or a cave whose walls are covered with drawings depicting chemical formulas, neurons, and bacteria. The main character is accompanied by a "mysterious" figure in a "struggle" that sometimes appears in the distance and disappears when he tries to approach her.
